Roofs for Egypt
All things taken for granted by those of us fortunate enough to have a safe place to call a home. This everyday common reality of ours is a lofty dream for the many families living below the poverty line in upper Egypt. Many are currently living in small, nearly uninhabitable living arrangements, vulnerable in the face of Egypt’s scorching hot summers and bitter cold winters. Their walls are rotting, thin, and provide no insulation. Their roofs are made of brittle straw, nearly falling apart, and allow rain to seep through. Electricity is largely nonexistent and with no reliable cooling or heating systems, tenants are often left to the mercy of the elements.
Such conditions are inhumane and unconducive to living a healthy, prosperous life. They propagate a perpetual cycle of poverty for generations to come. They are a hindrance to the youth who are unable to focus on their education and schooling, and the elderly, who deserve to live in a comfortable, warm environment. With Egypt’s harsh economic conditions and ever-rising inflation, many of our brothers and sisters lack the means to improve their living conditions. In Beni Suef, Egypt, 15 families are living such a reality. The families of Mikhail, Gamal, Ayad, Samaan, Michael, Malak, Hana, Nasr, Mikhiel, Ma’oad, Shaker, Mohsen, Zareef and Yacoub urgently need new roofs for their homes but cannot afford the cost of renovations. Their roofs are deteriorating and in dire need of repair, especially with the cooler months looming ahead. The need for safer housing conditions is critical perhaps now more than ever.
Unheard Cries is working with on-ground partners to help build adequate shelters for 15 families, including those of Nasr and Mikhiel. With your donations, we will be able to build solid roofs for their homes, renovate their walls to improve insulation, and lay down stable flooring so that our brothers and sisters in Christ may have a safe place to call a home.
