Shehab Career Revolution

There are few more reliable means to ensuring financial security than obtaining an education. Those who are not fortunate enough to attain a quality education or take up a trade are much more vulnerable to a life of poverty and destitution. They carry the burden of financial insecurity, and its many potential repercussions, including hunger, homelessness, lack of access to healthcare, and mental health challenges, among others.

On June 10, 2014, the terrorist organization ISIS invaded the northern Iraqi city of Monsul leading to a myriad of devastating consequences. The invasion resulted in the displacement of numerous minority families to the city of Erbil, many of whom continue to live there years following the incident. They have faced innumerable challenges since the displacement and continue to be profoundly impacted by its effects in various unimaginable ways. One significant obstacle that many of the displaced young adults in Erbil face today is their need for employment despite not having the required education and training. They are burdened with the responsibility of providing for their families but lack the credentials to apply for meaningful, adequately-paying jobs, leaving them feeling stuck.

To grow the skill set of these young adults and give them the chance for a brighter future, Unheard Cries is partnering with a nonprofit Assyrian organization based in Iraq to create a new learning center dedicated to this purpose. Courses in calculational programming will be taught to allow learners to gain proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word Document, and formatting, in order for them to obtain jobs in tech. Ten adults are currently anticipated to participate with an age range of 20-30 years old.

The course will be split into a three month period divided as follows:

First month–eight lectures in total on Excel; three hours each

Second month–eight lectures in total on Word; three hours each

Third month–eight lectures in total on formatting; three hours each

The total amount of money needed to fund this project is $2600. Costs will be divided as follows:

Instructor–$1200

Computers (4)–$1,000

Transportation–$150

Stationary items–$150

Certificates–$100

Your generous donations will enable Unheard Cries to kickstart this important endeavor and cover the above costs. These young adults have been through unimaginable obstacles in the last ten years and it is our time to step up and help them take the first step toward a brighter future.
